209 The
symbol above the room number represents ears of corn that reflect the four sacred
directions: north, south, east and west. Some of the symbols at the resort are
multi-colored. Traditionally, Indian corn comes in many colors, including the
red, blue, green and purple. Each ear correlates with a season. The annual green
corn festival of late summer is called Wigwam. Purple corn is reminiscent of the
violets of spring. Blue corn recalls the ice blue color of winter and rust red
evokes the Connecticut leaves in fall. Each color has broader significance as
well. For example, blue represents the sky and spirit. Red is the color of women
and life. Inside the four ears of corn is the Mohegan Tribal symbol - four semicircles
that stand for the four corners of the earth under the sky dome (yellow when the
symbol is multi-colored). At the center is a dot that indicates the spiritual
life force felt throughout the universe (red when the symbol is multi-colored).
And the four dots represent the people who travel to the Mohegan reservation (black
when the symbol is multi-colored). |
