Springs Spa |
Description: Thermae Bath Spa is
the only Spa in Great Britain to use the beneficial power of natural hot
springs. The mineral rich, thermal springs of Bath are unique in the UK
and are the reason for the City's very existence. The legendary founding
of the city in 863BC by Prince Bladud was the start of the remarkably
rich and exciting story which moves through Celtic times to the Roman
era when the magnificent bathing complex was built. Aquae Sulis, as the
city was then called, was famous for its thermal waters and the spiritual
and physical well-being they promoted. The water from these springs is
believed to have fallen as rain around 10,000 years ago and then sank
to a depth of about 2km below the earth's surface. Here it was heated
by high temperature rocks before rising back up through a break in the
limestone that lies beneath the city of Bath. Over 1 million litres of
mineral-rich water flow from the thermal springs each day, at an average
temperature of 45°C or 113°F. The thermal waters were used for
many years in Bath to treat rheumatic and muscular disorders, as well
as skin ailments and respiratory problems. The Cross Bath and Hot Bath
are fed by the Cross Spring, while the New Royal Bath draws water from
the Hetling and King's Spring. The King's Spring also supplies the Kings
Bath in the Roman Baths behind the Georgian Pump Room.
On arrival at Thermae Bath Spa, you will be handed your own 'SmartBand',
which acts as a key for your personal locker and lets you pay for any

body massage, you can charge these items to your SmartBand and pay for
them on departure.

Bath contains two spectacular natural thermal baths, where mineral-rich
waters invigorate and calm. In the flowing curves of the Minerva Bath,
whirlpools and neck massages aid your relaxation, while the open-air rooftop

countryside.), Massage Suite (8 purpose-built massage rooms), Steam
Room (The Steam Floor uses dramatic contrasts of light and steam to
create a magical setting. The four glass steam rooms are circular in shape,
and are gently infused with essential oils, such as eucalyptus and mint,
lavender, mountain pine and jasmine. A central 'waterfall' shower, interspersed
with fibre optic lighting, provides the lightest misting of water or an
invigorating shower to re-energise your body. And there are 10 foot baths
to soothe your weary feet.), Inner Space (Throughout the day, the
'Inner Space' offers classes and sessions in yoga and Pilates.), Relaxation
Area & Terrace, Changing Suite (The changing suite is located
on the upper ground floor by the reception in the New Royal Bath. The
changing suite is mixed, with individual changing cubicles and lockers.
The SmartBand, provided on your arrival, activates the lockers. It is
recommended that you keep all valuables and jewellery in your locker.),
The Hot Bath, designed by John Wood the younger in the 18th century,
has been restored as a sanctuary of spa, health and well-being with sophisticated,
modern facilities, with its 12 restored treatment rooms and its own natural
thermal pool. The treatment rooms are designed in a simple classical style,
using natural stone and glass to create a special setting. The Hot Bath
has its own relaxation area, which is available before or after a treatment.
The Cross Bath is an intimate, open-air, thermal bath, which stands
alone from the other spa buildings. Here you can bathe in a unique environment
that restores this Grade 1 Listed building to its historic purpose. Where
the Cross Bath now stands, the Celts revered their goddess Sul, in whose
honour the Romans named their new spa Aquae Sulis. Acknowledging this
age-old reverence for the natural thermal waters, the Cross Spring is
designated as a sacred site. The oval pool in the Cross Bath draws on
water from a thermal spring rising through the limestone rock below. All
year round, you can watch the spring waters as they rise and fall freely
from a specially commissioned pool-side fountain. After dark, the subtle
lighting scheme picks out the building's fine architectural details. The
simple changing area has been designed to accommodate up to 12 people
and includes lockers, showers and toilet facilities. The Divine Influx
- the sculpture through which the Cross Spring passes - was designed by
artist William Pye, a water sculptor of international renown. Overlooking
the colonnades of Bath Street, The Source meeting facilities are
an original venue for corporate events and functions. The Source offers
all the modern facilities you would expect from a dedicated meeting facility.
Delegates can enjoy finishing off the day with a relaxing spa session.
With views over Bath's elegant Georgian Colonnade, the Springs Café
& Restaurant offers delicious, nutritious meals, snacks and drinks
throughout the day. The free Spa Visitor Centre in the Hetling
Pump Room describes the colourful social and cultural history that grew
round Bath's Spa. Interactive displays and exhibits unfold the story,
from the founding of Roman Bath, through Saxon, Elizabethan and Georgian
times to the recent revival of Bath's spa quarter. And, at the on-site
drinking fountain, you can sample the unique flavour of the waters yourself.
Audio guides provide an interesting tour of the surrounding spa quarter.
