WET, the Spa at TI
Julie Register experienced this spa at Treasure Island in Las Vegas, Nevada November 2006

Entrance to Wet, the Spa at TII was in Las Vegas to attend the ISPA Conference and Expo. But before I registered for the conference, I had a spa treatment at Treasure Island. I was at WET, the Spa at TI at 6:30 am in order to enjoy the whirlpool, steam and sauna before my 7:00 treatment. This was the earliest spa treatment I've ever had, but I'm from the East Coast, so my body thought it was 10 am - not bad at all. WET opens at 6 am, so they must have lots of people that come in early - most of them to use the fitness center.

Entrance to Wet, the Spa at TIThe last time I visited the spa at Treasure Island was in 2000 (click here to read that review). Since then there have been two main changes. The first: Treasure Island is now branded as TI (something I initially found confusing). The second: The spa has been themed and redecorated to capture the rejuvenating and nourishing essence of water. WET’s aquatic design begins at the spa entrance with etched glass panels meant to reflect ripples of moving water. The spa's color palette was inspired by the colors of the sea - vibrant blues, teals, turquoise and aquamarines suggesting a sun-dappled ocean and shimmering ivory and pale blue wall coverings representing seashells and soft sands. It is a very nice upgrade.

Pedicure Stations at Wet, the Spa at TIThe basic layout of the spa at remains the same - both men's and women's locker room facilities are complete with redwood saunas, whirlpools, large glass-walled eucalyptus steam rooms, private showers, a vanity area, and a full service juice bar (now offering e•lix•r tonics as well as apples, mini muffins, orange juice and cucumber water).

I checked in at the spa desk and was led past the fitness center and pedicure area to the Women's Spa. Crystal balls of light glittered in the vanity area. The inviting blue sofas in the changing area were draped with soft robes and pillows. I was given a locker, and I changed into the spa clothes it contained. I was surprised to notice that the apparently new terrycloth spa robe which had the WET logo embroidered on the back had already started to fray. However, the Okabashi sandals were possibly the most comfortable spa sandals I've worn. I helped myself to a Virtual Buddha e•lix•r, walked past the showers and a few treatment rooms to the women's wet area where I relaxed on a lounge chair near the whirlpool in solitude until it was time for my treatment.

When it was time, a spa attendant escorted me through a door in the wet area that lead to a long hallway of treatment rooms. My therapist, Jack, was waiting for me at one of the rooms midway down the hall. I was to have the 50-minute WET Signature Wrap. Jack started the treatment with a salt scrub to exfoliate my skin. He brushed off the salt and applied a Phytomer gel made of sea water scented with ylang ylang, sandalwood, sage and basil (wonderful aroma!). He wrapped me up and, while the gel was being absorbed, gave me a great scalp massage. After about 15 or 20 minutes, Jack had me wrap up in the sheet from the table, take my robe and walk back down that long hallway, through the women's wet area to the women's showers to rinse off, walk back through the wet area, through the door and down the hallway again. A shower in the treatment room would have been much better - more private, convenient and less time wasted. I returned to the treatment table where Jack massaged in a Phytomer body milk. The treatment (save the stroll midway through it) was lovely. A lot was packed into those 50 minutes. My skin felt great. The massage was short but excellent. The purpose of this treatment is to restore the body’s key minerals and reverse the affects of fatigue, stress and low energy. It's good for someone who's overindulged and partied all night. It was also good for me who had spent a long time traveling the evening before. It was a great way to start the day!
