Description: Matakauri lodge is set in ten acres of native bush, partially landscaped with rolling lawns, a meandering stream and surrounded by a pine forest, which creates an atmosphere of supreme privacy and enjoyment. The pure waters of Lake Wakatipu are fed by pristine rivers and quiet streams while sheltered bays and coves line the 140 kilometre of shoreline. Amid towering mountain peaks the lake environs provide a natural haven for an abundance of trout, bird and wildlife. Private walkways from the Lodge lead directly to the lake shore and provide easy access to a scenic walking track. Matakauri offers New Zealand’s first organic spa experience, where its elements are prescribed and blended using totally natural products – many of which are sourced locally and based on seasonal produce. Suitable for both men and women, every treatment is tailor made specifically for each individual to suit their skin, body and particular needs, to stimulate and restore the natural healing forces of the mind body and spirit. The Spa at Matakauri welcomes non-residential guests by appointment.

Treatments and Programs: Sourcing carefully the products used in the treatments, Prescriptives exclusive use of natural ingredients maximise the therapeutic value and may include cinnamon quills, star anise, crystal sea salt, the legendary NZ active organic manuka honey, seasonal fruits and flowers, green tea, rice flakes, live natural yogurt, wheatgerm, ground flax seeds and unhulled sesame seeds. Personalised Prescriptives may start with hand and foot massages – a fabulous pick me up, or individually agreed face, skin and body polishes, masks, moisturising and massage programmes. Prescriptives ‘signature experiences’ are a full or half day of personalised holistic body, mind and spirit care. For a truly heavenly experience, residential guests can even have a Prescriptives bath, drawn in the enormous tub in their own room, scented and softened with specially prepared blends of organic aromatherapy oils, fresh flowers or herbs to stimulate, relax or detoxify. In addition, the spa also offers manicures, pedicures, and traditional massage treatments.

Spa Facilities: Internationally experienced therapists complete treatments in the purpose built rooms with en-suite bathrooms, which are set in native bush with panoramic views of Lake Wakatipu and the mountains. An indoor hot tub with expansive garden and lake views and sauna are also offered.

Other Facilities: Matakauri Lodge is one of the worlds most private and serene vacation retreats, offering superb dining and spacious accommodation, where guests can relax and unwind in a tranquil setting of unrivalled scenic beauty. Accommodation comprises four luxury villas and three luxury suites, featuring spacious lounges, oversized bathrooms, under floor heating and panoramic views. The restaurant uses locally sourced products and has an extensive wine cellar, ensuring all tastes are met.
