Destination Spa Group Steps Up to Nutrition
for National Nutrition Month® 2006 February
20, 2006 In an effort to Step Up to Nutrition, Destination
Spas from around the world have joined forces to promote National Nutrition Month
2006. In keeping with the American Dietetic Associations theme, Destination
Spa Group (DSG) members are offering creative new cooking classes, special fitness
activities and interactive education sessions throughout the month of March. These
featured activities complement the life enhancing program exclusively featured
at Destination Spas.
Step 1 Starting March 1st, Destination
Spa Group and all of its member spas will provide guests with a Nutrition
Resource List. This valuable resource was developed by registered dietitians
and nutritionists from the DSG spas. Our spa nutrition experts have found these
books and websites to be great references full of sound nutritional information. Step
2 Destination Spa Group and its member spas will be running a Destination
Spa Lifestyle Recipe contest throughout the month. Contestants will be asked
to submit a recipe that best exemplifies Destination Spa Lifestyle Cuisine. The
best recipes will be posted on the DSG website and the winner awarded a cookbook
from one of the Destination Spas. Step 3 Each week,
a Nutrition Education class will be offered at select DSG spa locations. The class
will highlight the key messages for National Nutrition Month. The
food and physical activity choices made today - and everyday - affect your health
and how you feel today and in the future. Eating right and being physically active
are keys to a healthy lifestyle.
Make smart
choices from every food group. Give your body the balanced nutrition it needs
by eating a variety of nutrient-packed foods every day. Just be sure to stay within
your daily calorie needs. Get the most nutrition out of your calories. Choose
the most nutritionally rich foods you can from each food group each day - those
packed with vitamins, minerals, fiber and other nutrients but lower in calories.
Find your balance between food and physical activity.
Regular physical activity is important for your overall health and fitness plus
it helps control body weight, promotes a feeling of well-being and reduces the
risk of chronic diseases.
Step 4 During
the month of March, DSG spas will feature a Step up to Nutrition fitness
class. Examples include Step & Sculpt, Stepping 101, Funky Step and Two-Step.
Fitness and nutrition staff will be available to answer nutrition questions and
provide nutrition information at these designated classes. Step 5
