June 22, 2005 - The Peninsula
Beverly Hills has just begun a 5 million dollar renovation to
the Spa, which will be reminiscent of a Peninsula of the future. The
Spa is due to be completed early fall and open in October/November.
Over the years, a treatment room or two was added and the gym size
increased. However, since its last complete redesign five years ago,
the popularity of the Spa has grown exponentially, particularly among
men. It became clear that a new space was needed that would not only
satisfy customers increasingly sophisticated needs but provide
new and improved experiences as well.

General Color Scheme for the new Peninsula Beverly Hills Spa

Interior designer Darrell Schmitt, who conceived and
carried out The Peninsula Beverly Hills original interior design
in 1987 with the late James Northcutt, accepted the assignment of
imagining the visual elements. Schmitt is currently overseeing the
redecoration of all of the guest rooms, villas and suites, which are
being transformed with new fabrics and color schemes.

Creating a new look and feel for the Spa requires a
complete redesign and rebuild; the result will be both visually and
perceptually set off from the rest of the hotel. Intimacy has always
been an important part of The Peninsula Beverly Hills, so only an
additional 900 square feet were needed for the addition of a new couples
treatment room with French doors opening onto a view of the
Hollywood Hills and a private shower with double shower heads and
body sprays as well as a relaxation room infused with natural
light and furnished with signature double loungers. The design will
focus on limestone, clear glass and mosaic style tile work while following
a color scheme consisting of contrasts French blue fabrics, paint
and wall coverings and pure white Calacata marble. The new spa facility
and treatments are designed with both the executive and leisure traveler
in mind. Additionally, an outdoor relaxation fire pit will be built,
located on the rooftop of the hotel, adjacent to both the pool and
spa entrance.
