Restored Tourist Services and Activities
at EcoTulum Resorts & Spa in the Riviera Maya
Tulum,
Mayan Riviera (August 2, 2005) ~ It's business as usual for EcoTulum
Resorts & Spa, a collection of three rustic boutique hotels Cabañas
Copal, Azulik, Zahra, and the holistic Maya Spa, following July's brush
with Hurricane Emily on Mexico's Mayan Riviera.
EcoTulum Resorts & Spa (www.ecotulum.com)
suffered minor damage during Hurricane Emily and reopened just two days
following the storm after staff made necessary repairs. Copal suffered
damage to the decks of the Bar Tun Tun, and some window breakage. Azulik
had one broken window. The rest is intact. Zahra suffered some damage
to the seaview cabanas. Everything was repaired by Wednesday, July 20
and regular 3 p.m. check in proceeded as normal.
EcoTulum Resorts & Spa is located in the Riviera
Maya, a popular Mexican tourist destination located on the eastern coast
of the Yucatan peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo, just and 120
miles south from the Cancun international airport.
The rest of the region suffered some material damages;
mostly in public areas such as receptions, restaurants, and sea front
hotel rooms facing directly toward the Caribbean Sea. Electricity and
running water were restored to the area less than 24 hours after the
hurricane. The majority of the hotels, restaurants and shops in the
Riviera Maya are working as usual due to the experience and organization
of the local hoteliers with this type of natural event. The international
airport of the city of Cancún resumed operations Monday morning,
July 18th. The highways that connect Cancun to Tulum are clear from
any obstacles and are safe to drive.
