A Rosewood Spa™ to Debut at Rosewood Sand Hill
MENLO
PARK, CA - Mar. 04, 2009 - Rosewood Sand Hill is pleased to announce the April
2 opening of Sense, A Rosewood Spa™, and the appointment of Spa Director
Rita Pelican, who joins the Sand Hill team after launching Sense, A Rosewood Spa™
at Rosewood Mayakobá. The spa, which will serve hotel guests as well as
the general public, will open in conjunction with the luxurious 123-room Rosewood
Sand Hill hotel and Madera restaurant.
The serene 17,000-square-foot
Sense spa melds relaxed California elegance with fragrant gardens and views of
the Santa Cruz Mountains, offering an array of personalized services and revitalizing
treatments that incorporate natural elements from the area. The spa features 13
treatment rooms, a state-of-the-art fitness center, movement studio, salon, courtyard
relaxation lounge, Spa Café, and spa boutique.

have worked to develop a menu of treatments guided by the Rosewood philosophy,
A Sense of Place®, incorporating indigenous elements inspired by the coastal
forests of Northern California and honoring local healing traditions," said
Pelican.
Sense is an elegant spa designed to draw the outside
in -- from the expansive windows overlooking manicured gardens and inviting outdoor
courtyard relaxation areas to the inspiration of the nearby coastal forests that
are integrated into many of the Sense signature treatments. Spa guests are welcomed
by a striking reception area with rich charcoal Italian polished plaster walls,
slate floors and dazzling art commissioned for Sense from Northern California
artists.
Treatment rooms overlook an enclosed garden and are
adorned with soothing apricot wall coverings, woven raffia ceilings and warm walnut
floors. In addition to the multifunctional treatment rooms, the Duet Suites, and
a Vichy Shower treatment room are designed to accommodate the Sense signature
rituals. The expansive Duet Suite allows for multiple treatments in one room and
features a deep soaking tub for two, a revitalizing Swiss Shower with eight shower
heads, private restroom, cozy relaxation area, and a private outdoor courtyard,
complete with a private whirlpool.
Personalized service, coupled
with an environment in harmony with the peace and beauty of Sand Hill, ensures
a tranquil escape for resort guests and locals alike. Herbal treatments provide
a glimpse into the wealth of local healing plants. Inspired by the richness of
the coastal forests, the scents of eucalyptus, laurel, oak, yerba buena and other

THE SPIRIT OF CALIFORNIA: FOR TWO Inspired by the
magic of the coastal forests, this aromatic journey begins with a soothing foot
ritual, a ceremony symbolizing the cleansing of life's tensions. Relax in the
private whirlpool before a gentle exfoliation prepares the skin for a nourishing
body wrap. Unwind side-by-side with a Sand Hill Signature Massage and indulge
in an aroma bath followed by a tea ritual and private relaxation time.
FOREST
SANCTUARY Inspired by the grounding energy of the coastal giants, Sand Hill's
signature Body Sense treatment restores energy flow, clears the mind and brings
a centering balance. Following a gentle exfoliation with native grains and eucalyptus,
the spa guest will be enveloped in a body wrap infused with scents of the woods.
After a warm rainwater rinse, a relaxing massage that incorporates aromatherapy
and hot stones will gently melt muscle tension and free one's mind.
HERBAL
HARMONY Based on the century-old tradition of Sebastian Kneipp, each element of
this European Cure is individually blended to harmonize mind, body and spirit.
After the spa guest selects a preferred herbal therapy, the Sense therapist will
mix the exfoliant, wrap and massage oils from the finest local herbal ingredients.
To complete the treatment, Sense's signature tea ritual is served as the guest
rests cocooned in the spa's relaxation room overlooking peaceful gardens.
SAND
HILL SIGNATURE MASSAGE Experience a treatment that helps to uncover mysteries.
Find the peace represented in the silence of the trees. A powerful full-body massage
relieves tension and frees the mind. With special focus on the neck and shoulders,
it stimulates energy and blood flow to the brain to increase concentration and
improves one's sense of well-being.
Separate men's and women's
locker rooms each feature a relaxation area, wet lounge and charming outdoor courtyard
with whirlpool. At the center of the spa, a coed relaxation lounge opens into
an interior courtyard graced with a soothing fountain. The spa's salon, located
adjacent to the women's locker room, offers a comprehensive menu of hair care
services and houses the spa's three manicure stations and three pedicure stations.
Overlooking
an English garden, the spacious fitness center features expansive windows and
state-of-the-art fitness equipment from Technogym® including Kinesis. The
spa's Movement Studio, adjacent to the Fitness Center, overlooks the same garden
area and will be home to small group sessions that include yoga, Pilates, spinning,
body toning, and stretching, as well as private sessions arranged for guests by
the hotel.
The Spa Café offers outdoor courtyard seating,
serving organic spa cuisine and a wide selection of healthful foods on the go.
Menu items include smoothies, parfaits, breakfast breads and pastries in the morning;
in the afternoon Spa Café specialties include Baby Greens with Rice Wine
Vinaigrette, House Cured Salmon and Shaved Spring Vegetables; a Lavash Wrap of
Smoked Tofu, Marinated Vegetables and Quinoa Salad; Market Inspired Vegetarian
Soup; and Grilled Chicken with Live Alfalfa Sprouts, Miso Dressing on Nine Grain
Whole Wheat Bread.
