Sagging Skin: Beyond The Surface
Sagging or slackening skin is primarily attributed to changes within the skin's dermis layer, the principal support tissue of the skin that lies below the epidermis (top, visible layer) consisting of bundles of tough proteins such as collagen and elastin, which give skin its elasticity, firmness and strength. As we age, fibroblasts, the principal cells that synthesize the dermal constituents, not only decrease in number and lifetime cycle, but also experience :
