Fun Foot Care Facts From Microplane®
Foot File with Podiatrist Dr. Marc Brenner
New
York, NY 2006
Beauty starts with the feet. After walking barefoot
on the beach and strutting in backless sandals on sand, streets and
sidewalks, nothing shows the wear and tear more than your feet. From
blisters and bunions to calluses and cracked heels, your feet could
use some love and care! Microplane® Personal Care has created Microplane®
Foot File, a revolutionary pedicure tool that will transform soles from
cracked and callused to silky smooth in seconds. With Microplane®
Foot File and foot care facts from Dr. Marc Alan Brenner, Podiatrist
to the Stars and Foot Care Expert, Microplane® will have your feet
fabulous through all four seasons.
Should calluses be removed?
Dr. Brenner, DPM, FASPD, says calluses should be removed
in order to provide feet with adequate comfort and prevent infections
and ulcers. Microplane® Foot File ($21.95) is a safe, gentle and
remarkably easy pedicure tool for removing calluses with ease. Dr. Brenner
suggests using Microplane® Foot File once every ten days and moisturizing
soles after callus removal with a nourishing cream or foot balm. Try
new Microplane® Orange Blossom Foot Cream ($12.95/6oz.), a deep
therapy moisturizer with a tantalizing orange blossom scent for very
cracked, dry feet, containing natures best moisturizing ingredients
like Aloe Vera, Sweet Almond Oil, Tea Tree Oil, MSM and Vitamins A &
E.
What problems can arise from cracked heels?
Three out of four Americans experience serious foot problems
in their lifetime. Dry skin is a common condition that can lead to the
painful problem of cracked heels and fissures, which can cause infections
and even worse, ulcers. Once a callus has formed from force or friction
against the soles, the skin can continue to thicken causing the callus
to press up into the foot. This painful process kills healthy skin tissue
and can form an ulcer. Dr. Brenner suggests that you see a podiatrist
if your calluses are repetitive or if any foot problem persists.
What should a daily foot care routine include?
Dr. Brenner suggests cleaning feet daily with soap and
warm water and drying completely and carefully, especially between the
toes, an area that is more prone to fungal infections. A few quick pumps
of new Microplane® Foot Fresh (12.95/4oz.) will deodorize and sanitize
feet prior to filing or any time to keep feet fresh and clean. With
250,000 sweat glands in a pair of feet that excrete as much as a half-pint
of moisture a day, Foot Fresh will save you from the unpleasant and
embarrassing results of sweat. Use foot powder to keep feet dry and
help prevent infections. File soles every ten days to remove hardened
skin with Microplane® Foot File, and finish by applying a nourishing
foot cream or balm for optimal softness.
Why choose Microplane® Foot File?
Its 95 tiny files and patented Microplane® technology
create a bi-directional exfoliating system that is gentle, yet delivers
powerful and immediate results. Designed to work best on dry skin, no
pre-soaking is required. With just a few back-and-forth strokes of the
Microplane® Foot File, even the most pessimistic will discover Microplane®s
magic as the driest skin and toughest calluses quickly disappear.
What are the best and worst shoes for feet?
With each step, the pressure on your foot is equivalent
to 1.5 times your body weight, and during a typical day, the feet endure
a cumulative force of several hundred tons. So when toes are squeezed
tightly into ill-fitting shoes or pushed into the front of high-heels,
the constant friction can cause the toes skin on top and below
to thicken and form corns or calluses. Its no wonder women have
about four times as many foot problems as men! For healthy, comfortable
feet, Dr. Brenner suggests wearing shoes that fit and provide proper
support, flexibility and cushioning like Mephisto®, Ecco®, New
Balance® and Munro®. Since the two feet can be different sizes,
purchase shoes that fit the larger foot. And to help prevent painful
calluses and fissures, choose function over fashionavoid wearing
shoes with extreme high heels or with no toe room or metatarsal padding.
