(SAN DIEGO, CA.; March 2008)
The luxurious Spa at Rancho Bernardo
Inn, located at the renowned resort in San Diego, sets a new standard for
guest amenities with the unveiling of its spring and summer "Made Fresh Daily"
menus.
"Made Fresh Daily" is a seasonal body treatment that is
developed by the spa staff working directly with the chefs at Rancho Bernardo
Inn. Sourcing organic products from nearby farms, the chefs and spa personnel
collaborate to discuss which produce is coming into season. Spa Director Michelle
Schlekewey and Spa Manager Bree Lewis-Pritchard then select ingredients with healing
and rejuvenating properties to create a handmade body treatment that is paired
with a special chef-made amuse bouche crafted from some of the same ingredients.
In addition, spa guests receive a Spa to Go recipe card showing them how to create
meals and at-home spa treatments utilizing herbs that grow in the Spa Garden.
"The
Made Fresh Daily treatment encapsulates what's so great about the spa's location,"
says Spa Director Michelle Schlekewey. "In Southern California we have access
to fantastic produce year-round and we get to incorporate it into a new kind of
spa experience for the guests that also shows off the resort's culinary offerings."
For
spring, the "Made Fresh Daily" treatment will utilize avocado and rosemary;
summer's offering will incorporate watermelon and cucumber:
Spring:
Avocado and Rosemary (Available March-May)
Step one of the spring treatment
is exfoliation with Dead Sea salt, fresh rosemary and rosemary essential oil,
and olive oil, followed by a body mask and wrap with fresh avocado, yogurt, and
honey, again with fresh rosemary. While wrapped and letting the skin soak in the
oils and nutrients, guests receive a facial acupressure point massage and rosemary
scalp massage. Fresh avocado slices are placed under the eyes, which also helps
reduce puffiness.
Summer: Watermelon and Cucumber (Available June-August)
For
the summer Made Fresh Daily treatment, guests will experience a soothing body
mask made from watermelon pulp. Watermelon is high in antioxidants, and its natural
acids act as an exfoliant, as well as an astringent, helping cleanse and tighten
the skin. While the mask is on, cucumber slices will be placed under the eyes.
Additionally, a toner made from watermelon and cucumber is applied to the face
and body, which helps refresh the skin and bring moisture back into it. At the
end of the treatment, a handmade lotion comprised of watermelon juice, milk, and
mineral water leaves guests feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
The Spa at
Rancho Bernardo is part of the $25 million enhancement and expansion project at
the resort, which was completed in late 2007. The spa includes completely remodeled
indoor treatment areas, five new outdoor treatment casitas situated within a tranquil
garden, an outdoor patio featuring a Roman Pool, as well as the new 2,500-square-foot
saline Spa Pool and seven beautifully appointed cabanas. In addition, the landscaping
provides many of the fresh herbs with which the spa makes treatments.
