SpaQuality LLC awards MAJESTICSPA Essential Moments, the spa at the Hotel Majestic in Barcelona, Spain with SpaExcellenceSM Certification

GREENVILLE, Del. - November 30, 2012 – MAJESTICSPA Essential Moments, a boutique spa located in the Hotel Majestic in Barcelona, Spain, part of the Catalan group Majestic Hotel Group, has again achieved SpaExcellenceSM certification. In 2011, MAJESTICSPA became the first European spa to enter the SpaExcellenceSM program. The initial certification was the culmination of months of organizing and documenting MAJESTICSPA's quality system in accordance with The International Standards of SpaExcellenceSM2010 from SpaQuality LLC. The Standards provide a framework for everything that a spa does including planning, day-to-day operations, behind-the-scenes processes, leadership, teamwork, training, system evaluation, continual improvement and more.

In 2011, MAJESTICSPA's Spa Director, Eva Crespi, said implementing The International Standards of SpaExcellenceSM helped the spa:

  • define all the different activities that they do daily at the Spa and in the back office,
  • develop protocols to improve efficiency, train staff and incorporate changes and innovations
  • develop clear job requirements
  • improve internal communications

Results were impressive. For example, training new staff went from 2 weeks to one week while allowing them to be productive after just 2 days of training. The new training was more effective and the new team members felt more confident.

This clear and concise management system translated into being able to be fully devoted to customer satisfaction as well as set goals for the future.

In 2012, Ms. Crespi says that she has had much less staff turnover and following The International Standards of SpaExcellenceSM continues to help the spa run more smoothly.

The Assessment
A SpaQuality Certified Assessor conducted the annual, scheduled, "open-book" assessment of MAJESTICSPA's quality system for compliance to The International Standards of SpaExcellenceSM2010. The assessor sampled procedures, records and system integration and interviewed team members. The spa's processes were assessed in several categories - Intention and Strategy, Leadership, Guest Experience, Operations Support and Improvement - as well as how well they worked together as a quality system. MAJESTICSPA met all the requirements of The Standards for certification. MAJESTICSPA received a detailed feedback report from SpaQuality LLC highlighting things the spa does well and opportunities for improvement based on an analysis of the assessment. The spa also had an unscheduled SpaQuality Anonymous Guest Assessment to evaluate the spa from a Guest's perspective and can expect another one before the next annual assessment.

"It’s an inspiration to see the spa working so well and the business so successful. The Hotel Majestic has been under renovation for the last two years with 50% of its rooms closed. In spite of this challenge, the spa business continued to thrive thanks to its leadership and the integrity of its spa quality system."

MajesticSpa Essential Moments is located on the 10th floor of Hotel Majestic and has an incredible view of Barcelona. The hotel is located the middle of Paseo de Gracia and near the Ramblas where there are some of Gaudi’s buildings and exclusive boutiques. The spa offers facial treatments, body treatments, massages, manicures, pedicures, waxing and make-up.

The facilities include a reception area, four treatment rooms, two pedicure rooms, two manicure rooms, a make-up area, and a hydrotherapy circuit, which includes a dry sauna, an ice fountain, a steam room and a sensations shower with relaxing essential oils.
