Peachtree Road Race T-Shirt
We celebrated the
4th of July holiday this year in our traditional way. We participated in the Peachtree
Road Race with good friends from our days as students at Georgia Tech. Linda and
I were two of ~3,200 volunteers. We gave out T-shirts (Click here
to see us - I'm at the very top center with a black bag on my back). Jeff, Dean,
Frank, Andrew and James ran the 10K
race with about 50,000 other runners. We watched the fireworks at Lenox Square,
the largest show in the Southeast and the oldest in Atlanta. And I experienced
one of Atlanta's spas the day before the race. This year we stayed at the
Grand Hyatt Atlanta, and I booked a facial at the Buckhead Grand European Spa
located a few blocks away. After a short, pleasant walk which led me past the
fountains and sculptures in The
Park at Tower Place, I arrived at the 35-story Buckhead Grand Condominiums.

I
checked in at the reception desk. Owner, Daiva Jurgutis, asked me to sit in the
waiting area and fill out a health questionnaire. While I did, we had a chance
to chat. *Reception
and Waiting Lounge in Buckhead Grand European Spa Daiva is originally
from Lithuania where she first became an esthetician. She moved to the United
States, took additional classes and became a licensed esthetician in Atlanta where
she has worked for eight years. She opened Buckhead Grand European Spa a year
ago. Daiva
Jurgutis, Owner of Buckhead Grand European Spa Buckhead Grand Spa has
three treatment rooms. *Entrance
to Treatment Rooms in Buckhead Grand Spa
The first is a large couple's
suite with two treatment tables and a large shower. Couples massage is very popular
at Buckhead Grand Spa according to Daiva. This room is also used for single massage
and body treatments. Couple's

Treatment Room in Buckhead Grand Spa
Daiva escorted me into one of
the facial treatment rooms. She left the room while I changed into a terry wrap
and got settled on the comfortable treatment table. Daiva returned. A bit of maintenance
came first - she shaped up my eyebrows and plucked a few stray hairs. She started
the facial with examination of my skin and a thorough cleansing with a Clarsonic
brush. This was followed by a 5-minute lactic acid peel that was removed with
warm towels. A lovely facial massage came next using an exclusive hydrating oil
Daiva gets from France. Steam and extractions were followed by a glycolic, volcanic
lava mud mask. While the mask worked on my face, Daiva worked on my hands and
feet with massage and hot towels. It was very, very relaxing. After the mask was
removed, Daiva massaged in a light moisturizer as a final step. My skin looked
and felt terrific! Daiva recommended a number of CosMedix products for me
to use at home - Purity Clean exfoliating cleaner, Purity Balance toner, Hydrate+
daily moisturizer with SPF 17 and Define Vitamin A treatment. Great timing - I
was almost out of my current products, so I purchased them. Daiva also sells the
Clarsonic brush for home use. *Retail

July 4, 1970 in Atlanta, a group of just over 100 runners made history, just by
running down the street. • The
AJC Peachtree Road Race has remained the world's largest 10K since the late 1970s.
• The

• Booking
- The spa's peak hours are afternoons, weekends and holidays so if the time you
want falls within these hours, book as far in advance as possible. Mid-week appointments
are more likely accommodated on shorter notice. Please mention if you will be
using a gift certificate at the time of making your reservation. A credit card
is required to hold your reservation. Please mention any medical condition when
you book your appointment. • Specials
- Last minute specials are offered so be sure to call and inquire. • Therapists
- Both male and female therapists are on staff. If you have a preference, please
let the spa know. • Check
in - Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior to your appointment to allow
for check in, client/therapist interview, etc. • Late
Arrival - The spa strives to keep appointments son schedule, so if you arrive
late, and the room or therapist is booked after your session, your session may
have to be shortened. • Cancellations
- If you need to cancel your appointment, please provide as much notice as possible.
The spa requires at least 24 hours to cancel a singe service, 48 hours or more
for a package and 72 hours for holidays. No shows will be charged 100% of the
appointment total. • Communicating
- Your treatment, your time and your body are yours and the spa wants you to thoroughly
enjoy your experience. Please be sure to communicate preferences to your therapist
- the amount of pressure, room temperature, whether you want conversation or silence
or you would like different music. Please let your provider or staff member know
immediately if you are uncomfortable for any reason. Let your therapist or aesthetician
know of any medical concerns. • Attire
- Casual attire is suggested - something you can easily slip off and on without
fussing. The spa provides any necessary towels, robe and slippers for you to wear
during your visit. The best way to receive a massage or other bodywork is to be
unclothed, you are not required to be naked if it makes you uncomfortable. The
therapists are trained in the "art of draping.: They will leave the treatment
room while you get under the sheet on the table, keep you covered at all times
except for the area of the body they are working on, and will leave the treatment
room before you get up from the table. If modesty is an issue, the spa can recommend
treatments that can be done while you are fully clothed. |
FYI • Jewelry
- Most therapies flow more easily without the interference of jewelry. The spa
recommends removing neck and wrist ornaments. Be mindful of not leaving valuables
behind. You'll be sparkling well enough after your treatments! • Shaving
- If you need to shave (particularly beardless men receiving a facial), do it
at least two hours before your appointment. If you have booked a body scrub, shaving
the day before is highly recommended since rubbing salt into the slighted razor
wound is not a very relaxing experience. • Sun
and Spa - Please be conscious that some treatments may expose brand new skin
to the elements. An all over application of quality, high SPF product is recommended
especially for the first few days after the reeatments. The spa's facial treatments
are finished with a moisturizer with a sun protection factor of 15 or above.
• Food
and Beverage - It is best no to receive bodywork on
a full stomach, so schedule meals or snacks to allow at least an hour before your
treatment. Drink water, especially if heat therapies are part of your package.
Since bodywork introduces clean, oxygenated and nourished fluids into your tissues
and stimulates your body to purge toxins, it is important to flush them out by
drinking plenty of water - and be aware of what you're putting into your nice
clean body after your treatments, especially refined sugars, high, fats, caffeine
and most importantly, alcohol - any of these may have a stronger effect on you
than normal. Toxins that are not flushed from your body can be reabsorbed and
may give you a "toxin hangover." If this happens, drink more water!
• Cell
Phones - Because the day spa environment should be a
tranquil and stress-reducing experience, please turn your cell phone off while
in the spa. • Gratuities-
Gratuities are not included in the spa's prices but are gladly accepted. Calculate
the amount of your tip as you would in a restaurant - between 15-20%, but you
may of course leave more or less, depending on the quality of the service.
• Check
out- When your spa treatments are completed, you will
be checked out at the reception desk. Please don't hesitate to request water or
tea before you leave. Gratuities may be added to your charge card or may be left
in a tip envelope available at the front desk. | Photos

You can clean your home, fruits, vegetables and meats with the same 'Aqueous Ozone' that spas and other companies use. Tersano's ‘Aqueous Ozone’ Cleaning Systemt is the world's most effective chemical-free cleaner. ‘Aqueous Ozone’ quickly oxidizes (kills) viruses and bacteria (including E.coli, Salmonella, MRSA, C-Difficil), mold, mildew and other contaminants on any item or surface - from toilets to bedspreads - before changing safely back into water and oxygen. ‘Aqueous Ozone’ is 3000 times faster and 50% more powerful than bleach and chlorine-based cleaners. It is 100% chemical free - no toxins, carcinogens or chemical residue - and safe for babies, pets and people with sensitive skin or those with strong reactions to normal cleaners. ‘Aqueous Ozone’ has long been used in water treatment, food sterilization and medical therapies for its remarkable anti-viral, and anti-fungal properties. It sounds too good to be true, but the data show how effective the system works.
I'm a believer.
