Spa | Description: The
award-winning Estate is a unique residential health retreat located in Bali in
inland jungle on a peaceful riverbank. The holistic concept and philosophy is
brought to life by international specialists using state-of-the-art facilities
in one of the world's most compelling natural forests. The Estate provides guests
with the rare opportunity to shed old habits, nurtured by leading specialists
in contemporary holistic health. The elevated level of care and intimacy gives
you the chance to re-connect with nature's rhythms and the time to discover new
passions. You are treated as individuals with complex ambitions for a better,
richer life ahead. Come here alone, engage at your own pace, and experience the
powerful camaraderie created by shared goals. Many of The Estate's guests don't
just make life-changing improvements to their health; they also leave with life-long
friends. Treatments & Programs:
The Estate believes in hands-on healing that combines traditional Eastern techniques
with select inspiration from the west. Appropriate therapies are recommended by
knowledgeable specialists who make suggestions according to each client's end
pursuit, whether it be a lymphatic issue, something muscular, or relieving deep-set
stress and emotional difficulties. There is a substantial Ayurvedic selection
of treatments, including Abhyanga, Pizhychil and Shirodhara. Balinese-inspired
therapies include a Warm Muscle Wrap. Using traditional local medicine in a warming
hand-crushed rice and spice mix, this treatment is considered effective in breaking
down cellulite. Massages include Deep Tissue, Hot Stone, Thai and Indonesian.
Facial care includes aromatherapy facials.
Physical activity is a key
element of the The Estate experience. Everyday, there is a range of activities
on offer. This variety owes much to the property's location in inland Bali, allowing
clients and Activity Guides to work in the outdoors. Active Adventure Challenges
include mountain biking, hiking, climbing, whitewater rafting and outdoor circuit
training. Both tuition and equipment are provided. In addition, The Estate offers
substantial Yoga and Pilates facilities, as well as tuition in various martial
arts and salsa classes. Swimming and tennis are also available on site. Cultural
Activities include excursions to local temples, ceremonies, markets and galleries.
Shops and artist studio visits can also be arranged, all with The Estate's English-speaking
guides.
The Estate fosters a balanced approach to eating, encouraging
guests to enjoy their food and its creation while maintaining a life-long interest
in the benefits of good nutrition. These values are reflected in Personal Eating
Plans drawn up by The Estate's resident Nutritionist and Executive Chef, complemented
by Special Learning Seminars and Cookery Workshops. Food is organic and sourced
locally. Meat, fish and vegetables are all featured, allowing all guests to eat
healthily whatever their preferences. Tastes, too, are given full rein in influences
that run the gamut from South Indian spices to Italian and Balinese. The range
of foods accommodates intolerances (soy milk instead of cow milk, and yeast and
wheat-free breads). Menus feature unrefined salts. Raw unprocessed honey replaces
sugar. Raw fruit and vegetables are also critically important to The Estate's
menus, and there is an extensive juice and vegetable extract menu. Romantic

Facilities: The Estates substantial health facilities use water
from The Source, a natural spring on the estate. They have been designed by architect
Cheong Yew Kuan in local stone, wood and traditional alang-alang roofing. Interiors
are by Japanese interior designer Koichiro Ikebuchi, whose uncomplicated, succinct
approach allows guests to engage with The Estate's greater purpose to clear
the mind for thoughts of better health. Health facilities include the following:
Nine treatment rooms (including three for couples), Four Water Garden treatment
pavilions, Outdoor hydrotherapy area, Water Garden hot tub, Swimming pools, Yoga
room, Pilates studio, Separate male/female steam and sauna, Fully-equipped gym,
Consultation rooms. In July 2007, COMO Shambhala Estate at Begawan Giri
unveiled a New Vitality Pool. This cutting-edge facility was originally created
by European scientists following nearly 20 years of research. It is located
at Ojas, the Estates principal treatment area occupying a clearing high
up in the forest above the River Ayung. The Vitality Pool uses water tapped directly
from The Source, a natural spring located in the Estates environs; it has
long been revered by locals for its healing properties. The spring water is heated
to a temperature of 34°C, with a pH level of 7.4 to 7.6 (this increased PH
level is absorbed by skin cells); it then runs through a bio-engineered Water
Vivifier System. This helps release free electrons thus increasing the number
of positive ions and their capability in the water. A renewed molecular structure
takes place, which locks in the waters negative free radicals.
The improvement in water quality is significant. At 14 by four metres, the Vitality
Pool can be used for treatments or exercise. It features six jet massage chairs,
two powerjet workout walls, three jet exercise stations, a current wall, overhead
spouts and two relaxation beds. Under supervision, these jets provide exacting
massages for the back, neck and leg areas. It can also help with ankle rehabilitation,
sciatica, meniscus injuries, general body conditioning and strength and flexibility
training. Guests can book a private joint mobilising massage. Many
of the exercises have been adapted from the teaching of Dr Sebastian Kneipp, the
19th-century Bavarian monk who was one of the forefathers of water healing (known
as hydrotherapy). The Vitality Pool therapies usually feature in a guests
Wellness Program while staying at the Estate. These Programs are created either
on a bespoke basis, to deal with specific issues, or form part of the Estates
repertoire of dedicated, set-price packages, which include Detox, Stress, Ayurveda
and Anti-Ageing. The shared purpose of all Wellness Programs is to help guests
return to basics, to rediscover that sense of poise and balance which naturally
exists in all of us. This means peeling away layers of stress, toxins and the
minds day-to-day distractions, allowing The Estates health professionals
to improve a clients state of wellbeing through a combination of diet, exercise,
instruction and nurture. Other Facilities:
Accommodation is among the most private and spacious of its kind, built into the
jungle, clearings and above the Ayung river. There are five Residences, each with
four or five suites and a large swimming pool. There are five one, two and three-bedroom
standalone Villas with assorted living space and private pools. There are five
Retreat Villas (one or two bedrooms each), which feature living, dining, kitchen
areas and private pools. Some Retreate Villas also have a private therapy room.
