DESCRIPTION

Skaná: The Spa at Turning Stone is a newly-constructed 33,000-square-foot state-of-the-art spa, salon and fitness facility located at the Turning Stone Resort & Casino, a 17,000-acre resort, gaming, entertainment and golf complex—an enterprise of the Oneida Indian Nation. Open November 1, 2006, Skaná is nestled in the Mohawk Valley Region of New York State, 30 miles east of Syracuse. The spa is conveniently located only 25 minutes from Syracuse Hancock International Airport and 90 minutes from Albany International Airport. It is a 45-minute flight or four-hour drive from New York City. The nearby Oneida County Airport accommodates private jets and helicopters.

Skaná’s gentle treatments use natural products combined with unparalleled service to promote inner peace and harmony—thus the name Skaná, the Oneida word for “Peace.” It is a sanctuary where soothing treatments and modern amenities combine with ancient American Indian healing traditions to create the world’s most luxuriously unique spa experience.

Based on principles of Peace, Balance and Harmony, Skaná Spa embraces the Oneida’s welcoming spirit and their custom of sharing friendship and peace, along with the balance of good health, harmony with nature, and tranquility within. Natural woods, stone, trickling water, fireplaces and authentic American Indian artwork inspire an atmosphere of natural calm where guests feel nurtured, rested and renewed.

Skaná Spa incorporates the benefits of time-honored herbal earth remedies and water therapies—as confirmed by modern research—with today’s technological advances in skincare to offer a truly rejuvenating experience that promotes good health and brings mind and spirit in perfect harmony. Open year round, Skaná Spa is co-ed with treatments and activities for men and women. Guests must be at least 17 years of age. Skaná is smoke-free, alcohol-free and cell phone-free. While Skaná Spa is reserved for overnight guests, day visits will be permitted based upon availability.

SPA FACILITIES

As guests enter Skaná via a glass-enclosed, sound-proof walkway that separates the spa from the main resort, the soul is soothed by the intimate, relaxed atmosphere and comfortable public spaces. The entrance features a welcoming area, decorated with American Indian art and crafts. The lower level of the spa features a spectacular flower-shaped co-ed mineral pool. The spacious spa facility has 12 treatment rooms for massage, body and skincare treatments, including one private VIP Spa Suite with two soaking tubs, a two-person shower with multi-jets, a relaxation area with a private herb garden, steam and sauna rooms and two treatment tables. There is also a roomy Couple’s Suite for side-by-side treatments. Private men’s and women’s locker rooms feature steam and sauna rooms, a mineral whirlpool, fully-stocked vanities featuring Molton Brown amenities, showers with individual changing areas, plus comfortable relaxation lounges with a beverage bar and fireplace. A full-service salon offers luxurious hair, nail and make-up services for men and women.

The 10,000-square-foot Fitness Center at Skaná Spa features a state-of-the-art gym with Star Traccardiovascular training machines with individual flat screen televisions, plus an exercise studio with special cushioned flooring. Certified trainers offer group and private fitness, aerobics, yoga, Tai Chi and meditation classes of all levels. There is also an indoor pool for swimming laps and aquatic classes, as well as for relaxation, with an accompanying lounging area, a beverage bar, co-ed whirlpool and private cabanas.

SPA SERVICES

Guests are invited to experience the self-guided Balancing Waters Ritual in the beautifully appointed men’s or women’s locker room before or after spa treatments, or anytime to increase circulation and detoxification, and to release muscle tension. The progressive steps taken in the Balancing Waters Ritual are designed to be relaxing, yet stimulating to the circulatory and central nervous system. The therapeutic balance of waters include the alternate use of hot and cool water, as well as steam and dry inhalation.

Skaná Spa’s foundation is the use of natures’ healing herbs, leaves and flowers in treatments, including Sweetgrass, White Pine, Lavender, Arnica, Peppermint, Rosemary, Grand Fir, Juniper, Cedar, Sage, Aloe and many others. The Skaná Spa menu includes dozens of types of therapeutic massages and skincare treatments.

Signature massage treatments include the “Sage and White Pine Hot Towel Massage,” which combines deep vigorous massage with steaming hot towels dipped in a blend of Sage and White Pine oils for the ultimate in relaxation, and the “Dandelion and Mint Foot Cure,” a reflexology massage that uses a combination of healing herbs and Eastern acupressure techniques.

Body wraps and scrubs feature Rosemary, Aloe, Salt, Lavender and Chamomile—herbs and plants known for exceptional exfoliating properties. Skaná’s “Balancing Remedies,” such as Yohutsya: t3: (meaning From the Earth) and 7s3hsi’ (meaning Reawakening) feature the healing powers of therapeutic herbal and mineral wraps and scrubs, warm stones, restorative baths and relaxing massages in luxurious combinations to shed stress, and restore balance and harmony.

Skincare treatments include facials and masks made from holistic deep cleansing and nourishing ingredients such as Pumpkin, Black Currant, Mint, Dandelion and Wild Black Cherry. Also available are treatments specifically designed for men, including the 110-minute Men’s Balancing Retreat.

To complement these rejuvenating treatments, Skaná Spa has added professional cosmetic dermatology services to its spa offerings. Skaná has joined with Dermatology Associates of Central New York to offer guests a host of nonsurgical skin rejuvenating and enhancement procedures, including peels, fillers, skin resurfacing, Botox, laser hair removal and more.

Skaná guests may take advantage of the complimentary scenic sunrise walks and daily yoga and Tai Chi classes on the property, as well as guided hiking on the property and at nearby hiking trails. A one-mile, six-station obstacle course surrounds the property.

Guests can experience a Sweat Lodge Ceremony in an authentic sweat lodge with a traditional fire pit, featuring storytelling, drumming, chants and prayers that have been used for centuries as a way of spiritually cleansing body and soul.

Guests of Skaná Spa stay at The Lodge at Turning Stone, a 94-suite, AAA Four-Diamond award-winning luxury boutique hotel that is attached to the spa facility. Built in 2004, The Lodge features contemporary Adirondack elegance with comfortable décor and furnishings. Guests can relax in the stunning Great Room, with 20-foot-high ceilings and large windows—which provide sweeping vista views—designed as a representation of a traditional Oneida Longhouse, complete with a fireplace with a suspended flue. The interiors encourage guests to luxuriate in the peaceful and welcoming haven set amidst serenely beautiful surroundings. All guest suites include: European-style linens and Egyptian cotton sheets, plush bathrobes and slippers, bathrooms with double sinks, whirlpool bathtubs and separate showers, fully stocked in-room refreshment centers and high speed Internet access. The Presidential Suite offers guests the height of luxury with a deluxe media center, private kitchen, mini-spa and three luxurious bedrooms.

A variety of fresh and healthy gourmet food and beverage offerings is available for breakfast and lunch at the Skaná Spa Café, which is adjacent to the spa. The elegant Wildflowers Restaurant (perhaps the finest restaurant between New York and Chicago), located in The Lodge, serves Continental cuisine with a contemporary flair and is open for lunch and dinner.

In winter, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing led by skilled staff members is offered. Outdoor activities are designed for all fitness levels to best suit guests’ needs. Turning Stone Resort has three championship golf courses and a weather-resistant Golf Training Center staffed by PGA teaching professionals. Turning Stone is proud to be hosting the PGA Turning Stone Resort Championship in the fall of 2007. There are over 80,000 square feet of all-purpose meeting space.

Skaná: Ritual of the Standing Stones - Indulge in an extended couple' treatment in the privacy of the Spa Suite. Start this journey of inner peace, tranquility and harmony with an herbal infused soak for both to share side by side. During this nourishing, stimulating and re-hydrating bath strewn with fresh herbs, exfoliate and nourish yourself with invigorating salts and therapeutic muds. After the bath you will enjoy a side by side massage as the therapists perform a "stone dance" to rebalance the senses. After the massage, your eyes will be covered with a Lavender eye pillow while receiving a pressure point scalp massage with Lavender infused hot oils to complete your relaxation.

The Oneida Journey - American Indian Cultures used herbal remedies such as Echinacea, Sweetgrass, Witch Hazel, Juniper, Sage and Pine to cleanse and heal the body long before synthetic medicines arrived. This treatment begins with a warm soak with spicy Sage and Pine to open up the lungs. After the inhalation, a wrap of purifying Plantain and Lobelia is applied. The session concludes with a relaxing massage.

A Walk in the Deep Forest - Nature's bliss enjoyed together. Begin with a relaxing cup of herbal tea, and then immerse yourself in a deep soaking tub filled with a luxurious foaming milk bath with Oat, Mint and Vanilla. Next, a reflexology treatment featuring Dandelion and Peppermint soothes tired feed prior to the ultimate escape of a warm stone massage with a sage and White Pine Oil Blend.
