CAMBRIDGE, Md. – (February 24, 2012) – The vitality and rich ecosystems of Maryland’s extraordinary Eastern Shore region are the inspiration behind Sago Spa & Salon, a newly renovated spa now open at Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Golf Resort, Spa & Marina. The 18,000 square-foot spa at the AAA Four Diamond resort received $1 million in comprehensive renovations, from architecture and aesthetics to new equipment and treatments.
“The new Spa’s namesake, sago, is a strong underwater grass in the Chesapeake Bay that provides life, vitality and nourishment to the surrounding waters and its inhabitants,” said Ted Kanatas, general manager of Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay. “Our new treatments are inspired by sago and the indigenous region, from the natural, sea-based products we’re using to the revitalizing effect that they’ll have on our guests.”
Sago Spa’s re-design, led by Baltimore’s RD Jones + Associates, is an abstract interpretation of its Eastern Shore setting, from nautical-inspired wall sconces and natural textured wallpapers to a color palette of golden hues, steel blues and earth tones. Guests rejuvenate in 13 soothing treatment rooms outfitted with top-of-the-line equipment. Additional features include a new co-ed relaxation room; a refurbished steam and sauna; a full retail area; and an expanded modern salon, complete with hair, make-up and nail stations. With a respectful nod to the environment, eco-friendly materials were used whenever possible for the renovation, from the limestone reception desk to the salon’s recycled glass tile.
Sago Spa & Salon’s treatment menu features the product lines of Thalgo, a French marine spa brand; and Naturopathica, a natural skincare line. Highlights of the treatments include an Old Fashioned Back Tonic, which uses healing massage techniques and steaming hot towels infused with basil, rosemary and bay laurel, to unravel deep-rooted spinal muscle tension. The Sago Body Wrap channels the power of the sea through a slimming and detoxifying marine treatment using micronized algae. The Deep Forest Ritual treats the body head to toe starting with a Vichy shower; followed by head, scalp and full body massages; and concludes with a seaweed wrap and foot massage. The skin-cleansing Sago Signature Facial includes a footbath, warm oil scalp massage and prescriptive facial complete with a collagen velvet mask. The Sago Marina Pedicure includes a stimulating marine footbath, a salt scrub, cooling foot masque, and concludes with a lower leg and foot massage.
